Most SaaS founders treat "visibility" as one problem. It isn't. It's two, and they fail independently.
The first problem is whether anyone finds you at all. Not on Google, on Claude, GPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, the four places a growing share of buyers now ask "what's the best tool for X" instead of typing a brand name into a search bar. A company can rank first on Google and still not exist inside an AI-generated answer. That's a visibility problem.
The second problem starts after you've been found. Someone opens your email, reads your changelog, lands on your pricing page, and decides in the first few seconds whether to keep reading or bounce. Most of that decision isn't about your product. It's about whether the thing in front of them is structured in a way a human brain can process quickly. That's a friction problem.
We built two live indexes to measure both, separately, across real companies: the AI Visibility Index (73 SaaS companies, scored on whether AI models mention and accurately describe them) and the Decision Friction Index (67 SaaS companies, scored on structural conversion quality across emails, changelogs, and landing pages). The overlap between the two lists is smaller than you'd expect. Companies that score a perfect 10 on AI Visibility routinely score under 5 on Decision Friction, and vice versa. Being found and being read are different skills, tested by different judges.
There's a third, quieter reason these two problems get treated as one: they both show up on the same dashboard-shaped blind spot. Nothing in Google Analytics tells you a model skipped your name entirely, and nothing in your email platform tells you a reader's eyes bounced off your subject line before they ever opened it. Both failures are silent by default. That's exactly why they need a deliberate, recurring check rather than a reaction to a metric that dropped.
This playbook treats them as two halves of the same funnel. Part II is about getting found. Part III is about getting read once you are. Part IV covers advanced signals most companies never think to check. Part V is the maintenance loop that keeps both from decaying. Part VI is where you go if you'd rather have someone else run the diagnosis on your own content.
